Engage in Research. Students participate in the McNair Research Experience during which they develop and conduct individual research projects under the guidance of a faculty/professional mentor. As part of the research experience, they enroll in MCN 201: Preparing for Research and MCN 401: Performing Research. More details are available on the McNair website.
Develop and deliver professional research presentations. McNair Scholars present their research at selected research symposia held at Marian University. In addition, students have the opportunity to travel to academic and professional conferences across the nation. Participation in conferences is an excellent opportunity to network with faculty and graduate students from a wide variety of institutions.
Attend graduate school preparation seminars and workshops. Students must attend graduate school seminars and/or workshops focusing on specific topics related to the graduate school application process, including how to identify graduate programs that “fit” their needs and interests, preparing for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and how to navigate graduate school.
Visit graduate schools and meet with graduate faculty members. Students can receive funding to travel to graduate school visits. This is an opportunity for them to learn more about an institution and department as they make decisions to pursue a graduate education.
Participate in Service-Learning opportunities. The Service-Learning experience is strongly encouraged at Marian University. These experiences serve students by engaging them in the educational process, using what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life challenges in the community.
