GRE Workshop Coming to Marian

Want to Succeed in Your Graduate School Admissions Test?
The GRE Workshop is for you.

The McNair Scholars Program at Marian University invites students to prepare for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) through a series of formal or informal instruction and study sessions. The workshop will be led by Teri Passow, Program Coordinator of the McNair Program.

Students enrolling in the workshop will be charged $225 for the entire session; this includes classroom instruction, all course materials (class text, skills review text, CD-ROM study aide), and pre- and post-course GRE assessments to help students gauge their progress and standing. While this may be a significant amount of money for many of our students, standard fees for these types of programs are typically priced at $500 or higher, making this a great opportunity.

This workshop is the only one of its kind offered in the Fond du Lac area.

Professional Conduct and Employee Rights

We’re on the home stretch, just a couple more weeks to go!

But if you need a break from studying, from working, or just feel a little frazzled, we are very excited to welcome Kathleen Rinehart, the Marian University Legal Counsel, to speak on behalf of our program.

Kathleen Rinehart will be speaking tomorrow,
April 27th at 2:30 PM in T205.

Ms. Rinehart will speak about the ever important issue of conduct and professionalism in the workplace.  For those of you about to graduate or even to embark on a new off-site research project, this is a can’t miss presentation!

Most of us know that we can’t copy/paste swaths from Wikipedia into our papers, or that we can’t  cheat on tests.  But do we know what comes next?  What happens if your boss asks you to perform a task that is clearly immoral?  What if you are consistently belittled by a coworker and don’t know how to stand up for your rights?  What happens if another lab worker blatantly steals your work and pawns it off as his own?

…if you come armed with questions, there’s a good chance you’ll get the answers.

In the past, we’ve had paltry attendance at Renaissance Scholar events among our most important group… our Scholars.  Maybe you don’t realize, but these events are put forth to help you become better, more knowledgeable human beings.

So keep that in mind when choosing whether or not to attend the program.

And good luck on finals!

Put First Things First

"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."
--Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Putting first things first means doing to the most important things in life. It means being clear about your priorities and acting on them. Many people unconsciously fall into the trap of getting caught up in non-important things. They neglect the larger life priorities until it becomes too late to act on them."
--Celestine Chua

Put First Things First is Habit # 3 of Stephen Covey’s book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
